There's a lot of <a href=\\\"EUS_Groups\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"different groups\\\">different groups</a> in the EUS. Navigating the\\r\\nentire map will take some time, but this page is intended to help make\\r\\nit a little bit easier. I'll be doing a breakdown section by section of\\r\\nhow these groups interact with a brief overview of what their purpose\\r\\nis.</p>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"executives\\\">Executives</h2>\\r\\n<p>These are the head honchos running the show on the day to day.\\r\\nElected by the constituents (with the exception of the VP Finance, <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"EUS_Constitution#Article_38:_Standing_Selection_Committee\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"who is selcomm&#39;d\\\">who is selcomm'd</a>),<a\\r\\nhref=\\\"executives\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"executives\\\">executives</a>\\r\\noversee a majority of EUS <a href=\\\"committees\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"committees\\\">committees</a>, <a href=\\\"Funding_Sources\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"funds\\\">funds</a>, and overall operations. Their\\r\\npurpose is to hold committees accountable, to liaise with the various\\r\\nexternal parties relevant to the respective portfolios, and to keep the\\r\\nship afloat.<br />\\r\\n<br />\\r\\n<strong>The EUS Executive Committee holds the power to:</strong></p>\\r\\n<ul>\\r\\n<li>Approve new <a href=\\\"clubs\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"clubs\\\">clubs</a></li>\\r\\n<li>Organize and initiate <a href=\\\"EUS_Council\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"EUS Council\\\">EUS Council</a> meetings</li>\\r\\n<li>Hold power of <a href=\\\"EUS_Council\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"EUS Council\\\">EUS Council</a> over the summer <em>(End of Winter\\r\\nSemester -&gt; Beginning of Fall Semester)</em></li>\\r\\n<li><a href=\\\"Credit_Card_Policy#Article_4:_Usage\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Ratify large purchases\\\">Ratify large purchases</a> with the EUS\\r\\nCredit Card</li>\\r\\n</ul>\\r\\n<p>Each exec's individual responsibilities vary, and are outlined\\r\\nbriefly in the <a href=\\\"EUS_Constitution#Article_10:_President\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"EUS Constitution\\\">EUS Constitution</a>.<br />\\r\\n<strong>Executives are to be held accountable by</strong> the <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"Board_of_Governors\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Board of Governors\\\">Board of Governors</a>, <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"General_Assembly\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"General Assembly\\\">General Assembly</a>, and <a href=\\\"EUS_Council\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"EUS Council\\\">EUS Council</a>; all of whom may\\r\\nassign additional mandates or reverse decisions made by the Executive\\r\\nCommittee.</p>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"eus_council\\\">EUS Council</h2>\\r\\n<p><a href=\\\"EUS_Council\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"EUS Council\\\">EUS\\r\\nCouncil</a> is a forum for discussing matters pertaining to the EUS and\\r\\nassigning action accordingly. All relevant parties across the EUS are\\r\\nrepresented at council, empowered to voice their respective\\r\\nconstituents' interests &amp; inclinations.<br />\\r\\n<strong>Council is responsible for</strong> enacting tangible\\r\\nimprovements to the <a href=\\\"Regular_Members\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"regular members\\\">regular members</a> of the EUS, holding SSMU\\r\\nReps/Eng Senator/Execs accountable, enacting <a href=\\\"Policies\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"Policies\\\">Policies</a>&amp;Resolutions to be\\r\\ncarried out, and creating any various <a href=\\\"Committees\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"Committees\\\">Committees</a> to further attain a\\r\\nbetter society.<br />\\r\\nEUS Council is adjacent in responsibility to the <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"Board_of_Governors\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Board of Governors\\\">Board of Governors</a>, who's role is more\\r\\nadministrative and legal in nature. <strong>EUS Council is held\\r\\nresponsible by</strong> <a href=\\\"General_Assembly\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"General Assembly\\\">General Assembly</a> exclusively.</p>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"general_assembly\\\">General Assembly</h2>\\r\\n<p>A <a href=\\\"General_Assembly\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"General Assembly\\\">General Assembly</a> is a forum called to\\r\\nrepresent all engineering undergraduate students. It may be initiated by\\r\\na Motion at <a href=\\\"EUS_Council\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"EUS Council\\\">EUS Council</a> or by 100 <a href=\\\"Regular_Members\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"Regular Members\\\">Regular Members</a> of the EUS.\\r\\n<strong>The purpose of a General Assembly</strong> is to act as a forum\\r\\nfor all engineering students to ratify amendments to <a href=\\\"Bylaws\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"Bylaws\\\">Bylaws</a> or create <a href=\\\"Bylaws\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"Bylaws\\\">Bylaws</a> ''(with the approval of the\\r\\n<a href=\\\"BoG\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"BoG\\\">BoG</a>), alter the financial\\r\\nstructure of the EUS, and assign resolutions mandating EUS Council, the\\r\\nBoG, or the Executive Committee.</p>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"board_of_governors\\\">Board of Governors</h2>\\r\\n<p>Created by the Winter 2017 Referendum, the Board of Governors is a\\r\\nnew entity dedicated to the overarching administrative aspects of the\\r\\nEUS. <strong>The Board of Governors is responsible for</strong>:</p>\\r\\n<ul>\\r\\n<li>Overseeing EUS <a href=\\\"Committees\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Committees\\\">Committees</a> with budgets greater than $50,000, as\\r\\nwell as <a href=\\\"Committees#Service_Committees\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Service Committees\\\">Service Committees</a></li>\\r\\n<li>Maintain the long-term <em>(i.e. greater than 1 year)</em> vision of\\r\\nthe EUS</li>\\r\\n<li>Upholding &amp; maintaining governing documents (<a href=\\\"policies\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"policies\\\">policies</a>, <a href=\\\"bylaws\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"bylaws\\\">bylaws</a>, <a href=\\\"constitution\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"constitution\\\">constitution</a>, &amp;\\r\\ncontracts)</li>\\r\\n<li>Maintain financial authority over matters outlined in the <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"Financial_Bylaws\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Financial Bylaws\\\">Financial Bylaws</a></li>\\r\\n</ul>\\r\\n<p><strong>The Board of Governors can overturn decisions</strong> made\\r\\nby the Executives, and is <strong>held accountable</strong> by a <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"General_Assembly\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"General Assembly\\\">General Assembly</a>. The Board of Governor's\\r\\nrole can only be amended with ratification by the EUS Council.</p>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"other_groups\\\">Other Groups</h2>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"departments\\\">Departments</h3>\\r\\n<p><a href=\\\"Departments\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Departmental representatives\\\">Departmental representatives</a>\\r\\ncomprise approximately 75% of EUS council members, and are otherwise\\r\\nlargely distinct organizations. Each department may create it's own\\r\\nsubcommittees, subclubs, events, and more without needing EUS Council's\\r\\napproval.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"clubs_design_teams\\\">Clubs &amp; Design Teams</h3>\\r\\n<p>Although different in purpose, <a href=\\\"Clubs\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Clubs\\\">Clubs</a> &amp; <a href=\\\"Design_Teams\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Design Teams\\\">Design Teams</a> are structured the same with\\r\\nrespect to the EUS. They are groups with their own dedicated mandate,\\r\\nleadership structure, and goals. Both report to the <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"VP_Student_Life\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"VP Student Life\\\">VP\\r\\nStudent Life</a>, and are represented in <a href=\\\"EUS_Council\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"EUS Council\\\">EUS Council</a> by their respective\\r\\nrepresentative.<br />\\r\\nClubs &amp; Design Teams are different than committees in the sense that\\r\\nthey are independent groups who do not need to align with the Executive\\r\\nCommittee's goals for example, or achieve a specific purpose for the\\r\\nstudents besides its own mandate.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"committees\\\">Committees</h3>\\r\\n<p>A committee is a group whose purpose is to support the EUS' mandate\\r\\nto its students; that may take many forms, be it the facilitation of\\r\\nfund distribution, event organizing committees, <a href=\\\"services\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"services\\\">services</a>, and more. When in doubt;\\r\\nit's probably a committee (<a href=\\\"The_Plumber&#39;s_Faucet\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"The Plumber&#39;s Faucet\\\">The Plumber's\\r\\nFaucet</a> is a committee, for example!).</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"ssmu\\\">SSMU</h3>\\r\\n<p>The <a href=\\\"http://ssmu.ca\\\">Students' Society of McGill\\r\\nUniversity</a> is a body dedicated to representing all 23,000+\\r\\nundergraduate students on the downtown campus of McGill University. Our\\r\\n<a href=\\\"SSMU_Reps\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Engineering/SSMU Reps\\\">Engineering/SSMU Reps</a> (depending on\\r\\nwhich side of the table you're on) represent all engineering\\r\\nundergraduate students on <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"http://ssmu.mcgill.ca/representation/ssmu-legislative-council/\\\">SSMU\\r\\nLegislative Council</a>, where policies &amp; motions regarding\\r\\nundergraduate life are passed. That structure.... well, good luck trying\\r\\nto understand the SSMU Club Map. All you need to know is we are\\r\\nrepresented by SSMU, but the EUS as an organization does not need to\\r\\nalign with SSMU's decisions.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"administration_beyond\\\">Administration &amp; Beyond</h3>\\r\\n<p>There are a number of positions who interact with the levels of\\r\\nadministration at mcgill (e.g. <a href=\\\"MESC\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"MESC\\\">MESC</a>, the Engineering Faculty, McGill's Board of\\r\\nDirectors, the Engineering Dean, and so on), most notably the <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"EUS_Senator\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"EUS Senator\\\">EUS Senator</a>,\\r\\n<a href=\\\"VP_Academic\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"VP Academic\\\">VP\\r\\nAcademic</a>, and <a href=\\\"President\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"President\\\">President</a>.<br />\\r\\nAn explicit rundown of the EUS' agreement with McGill is outline in the\\r\\n<a href=\\\"MoA\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Memorandum of Agreement\\\">Memorandum of Agreement</a>, a documents\\r\\nwhose purpose is to draw exactly that line between us.</p>\\r\\n<p><a href=\\\"Category:Curator&#39;s_Choice\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Category:Curator&#39;s Choice\\\">Category:Curator's Choice</a></p>\\r\\n\", \"id\": \"7a0f3d4f-f5a6-4df8-a42e-7bb885a00921\"}]",
