Each sub-team\\r\\noperates as a semi-autonomous entity, with project requirements set by\\r\\nteam leadership at the beginning of the design cycle. Students who join\\r\\nthe team may engage in many different fields which include composites\\r\\nand structures, fluids, and electronics. Each subteam varies greatly in\\r\\nthe projects they do so our rocket can fly. As such, you can definitely\\r\\nfind a project that suits your interest on the team.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"aerostructures\\\">Aerostructures</h3>\\r\\n<p>Aerostructures is responsible for designing and building the external\\r\\nairframe and internal structure of the rockets. The team performs\\r\\naerodynamic analysis on the airframe, and load analysis on the internal\\r\\nstructures to ensure weight is minimized while still meeting each\\r\\nsubsystem's requirements. The team has developed its composites\\r\\nmanufacturing techniques, making the whole airframe out of carbon fiber\\r\\nand fiberglass manufactured in house.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"recovery\\\">Recovery</h3>\\r\\n<p>The Recovery Subteam, as the name suggests, focuses on the recovery\\r\\nof the rocket. Its work focuses on the second half of the flight, from\\r\\napogee to landing (and then hopefully when the team finds and brings\\r\\nback the rocket). Recovery takes care of the systems linked to the\\r\\nparachutes and their deployment as well as other systems that aim to\\r\\nhelp retrieve the rocket after touchdown. This includes the ejection\\r\\nsystems, the parachute themselves and the recovery harness.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"avionics\\\">Avionics</h3>\\r\\n<p>Avionics designs a wide array of electrical systems on the rocket and\\r\\nthe ground, including but not limited to: rocket telemetry, recovery\\r\\nsequence circuits, and ground communications. Avionics also collaborates\\r\\nheavily with Aerostructures for the design of the avionics bay for the\\r\\nmain electronics. In general, experiments leverage either the intense\\r\\naccelerations induced by the rocket motor, the apogee the rocket\\r\\nreaches, or the time it spends in the lower atmosphere after parachute\\r\\ndeployment. Experiments only have hard weight constraints, with more\\r\\nflexible dimension constraints, and the purpose of the experiment is up\\r\\nto each year's payload team to decide: for example, the 2017-2018\\r\\npayloads were an atmospheric bacterial sampling experiment and an\\r\\nexperiment investigating the effects of high acceleration on small-scale\\r\\nbrain models.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"propulsion\\\">Propulsion</h3>\\r\\n<p>Propulsion is primarily responsible for the design, manufacturing and\\r\\nverification of the rocket engine. Secondary responsibilities mostly\\r\\nencompass the testing of the propulsion components at the rocket engine\\r\\ntest site located in MacDonald Campus, a new facility that was designed\\r\\nand built by the subteam. Propulsion also produces all the engine\\r\\nrelated infrastructure such as the engine igniters, the launch rails and\\r\\nthe rocket integration components.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"management\\\">Management</h3>\\r\\n<p>Management is responsible for the operation and logistics of team\\r\\noperation. The team entered the competition with a 10,000 ft COTS rocket named Blanche, which launched nomically and was successfully recovered in the New Mexico desert. Blanche featured 50 student-designed components from a total of 53 major parts!\\n\\nSince the team&#x27;s fifth rocket &quot;Blanche&quot;, the team has been hard at work redesigning their 30K COTS rockets and designing their first 10K Hybrid. Changes such as the elimination of the off-the-shelf components that remained, have saved costs and improved integration and reliability across the board. Additionally, testing has become more rigorous for all subsystems, ensuring that the next rocket will be a testament to the team&#x27;s experience. \\n\\nThroughout its years competing at IREC and SAC, in the 10K and 30K categories, the McGill Rocket Team has learned a great deal and is proud of the accomplishments it made along its journey.\\nthumb|Previous Rockets of the Rocket Team</p>\", \"id\": \"a23e90f1-842d-42b5-8947-0ffda7c6a62e\"}, {\"type\": \"raw_html\", \"value\": \"<table><thead><tr><th>Competition</th><th>Project</th><th>Placement(s)</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>IREC 2015</td><td>Project Peregrine I</td><td>32nd of 44 in 10K COTS solid category.
