If you\\u2019re a\\r\\nfinancial officer for your team (each team must at least have 1) you\\r\\nshould be familiar with this document.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"foapal\\\">FOAPAL</h3>\\r\\n<p>FOAPAL (fund, org, account, program, activity, location) is an\\r\\naccounting system used throughout McGill University, identifying the\\r\\nvarious parties by said criteria. FOAPAL aids in easy transactions by\\r\\nidentified parties; it is limited to organizations directly associated\\r\\nwith McGill, e.g. faculties, professors, departments, services, and some\\r\\ndesign teams. FOAPALs are mostly useful for paying brokerage fees,\\r\\nMcGill Market Place orders, McGill based work orders etc.. For more\\r\\nspecific questions about these, contact the <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"https://www.mcgill.ca/financialservices/gfm/financeroles/fst-teams\\\">Financial\\r\\nServices Team (FST)</a> of your department.</p>\\r\\n<p>The EUS has a <a href=\\\"FOAPAL\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"FOAPAL\\\">FOAPAL</a> however it cannot send of receive payments via\\r\\nthis FOAPAL. Some design teams have, or are looking to have, their own\\r\\nFOAPAL account through their department to facilitate payments. Here are\\r\\nsome notes about FOAPAL, but again, check with <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"https://www.mcgill.ca/financialservices/gfm/financeroles/fst-teams\\\">FST</a>\\r\\nif you have specific questions:</p>\\r\\n<ol>\\r\\n<li>To open an account, $10k is required as an initial amount</li>\\r\\n<li>For the fund to be kept open, minimum balance of $250 is\\r\\nrequired</li>\\r\\n<li>In order to open/re-activate an account, money must come from\\r\\nanother internal McGill account</li>\\r\\n<li>McGill could not, in our case, invoice the EUS for the funds as the\\r\\nTeam\\u2019s account had yet to be opened. Money could not be invoiced to an\\r\\nactive \\u201ctransfer\\u201d account within the McGill system because of accounting\\r\\nrules.</li>\\r\\n<li>Any account needs an account manager. In our case, this is a\\r\\nprofessor, our advisor.</li>\\r\\n<li>Machining doesn\\u2019t seem to be charged to design teams, as we have not\\r\\nseen a single \\u201cmachining\\u201d charge on our account printouts</li>\\r\\n<li>You can transfer money from your EUS account to FOAPAL accounts by\\r\\ncontacting your FST to invoice your EUS account for the needed\\r\\namount</li>\\r\\n<li>You can transfer money from your FOAPAL to your EUS account by\\r\\ncontacting your FST to write a cheque to the order of \\u201cEngineering\\r\\nUndergraduate Society of McGill University \\u2105 TEAM NAME\\u201d and send it to\\r\\nthe EUS</li>\\r\\n</ol>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"funding\\\">Funding</h2>\\r\\n<p>For a general overview of funding for McGill groups, check out the <a\\r\\nhref=\\\"Funding_Sources\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"Funding Sources\\\">Funding\\r\\nSources</a> page. The short term fund is available twice a year (you'll\\r\\nget an email), while the long term fund, used for any large renovation,\\r\\nis available year round. Those most\\r\\napplicable to design teams include the ambassador and the campus life\\r\\nfund. The ambassador fund can be used to cover a large portion of any\\r\\ncompetition fee, while campus life will typically support workshops and\\r\\ntutorials you may host.
