- "body": "[{\"type\": \"paragraph\", \"value\": \"<p><strong><em></em></strong></p>\\r\\n<p>The <strong>Engineering Games</strong> (also known as <em>Eng\\r\\nGames</em> or <em>Jeux de G\\u00e9nie</em>) is a province-wide engineering\\r\\ncompetition that unites a dynamic community of undergraduate students\\r\\nfrom 14 different schools. The Games serve as a platform for students to\\r\\nshowcase their skills and knowledge in a variety of disciplines, along\\r\\nwith the opportunity to network with numerous companies.</p>\\r\\n<p>The competition occurs annually in the first week of January, with\\r\\nparticipants residing in a hotel together throughout the 4 days of the\\r\\nevent. The community extends far beyond the competition itself, as\\r\\nstudents stay connected throughout the year with social events, and\\r\\nother activities that foster friendships and camaraderie.</p>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"participants\\\">Participants</h2>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"delegation\\\">Delegation</h3>\\r\\n<p><img src=\\\"McGillEngGames2023.jpg\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"|right|thumb|McGill delegation at Eng Games 2023|400px\\\"\\r\\nalt=\\\"|right|thumb|McGill delegation at Eng Games 2023|400px\\\" /> Each\\r\\nparticipating school sends a delegation of 44 students, plus 2 graduated\\r\\nambassadors from other schools, known as godparents\\r\\n(parrains/marraines). Each delegation is made up of one (or two)\\r\\nchief(s), the executive committee, the godparents, and general members\\r\\nselected by the execs.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"selection_process\\\">Selection Process</h3>\\r\\n<p>The selection process for the Games is known as <em>The Race</em>\\r\\n(also referred to as <em>La Course</em>). It consists of a series of\\r\\nevents organized by various schools, including parties, trivia or improv\\r\\npractices, sports days, and more. These events offer chances for\\r\\nindividuals interested in participating in the Games to connect with\\r\\nparticipants from other schools and get engaged. To join The Race,\\r\\nstudents need to purchase a race shirt and fill out an interest form.\\r\\nAnother way to join the delegation is by contributing to the preparation\\r\\nof the Machine or Entrepreneurship competitions. Stay informed about\\r\\nevents and engagement opportunities by joining the Facebook group linked\\r\\n<a href=\\\"https://www.facebook.com/groups/448308848541809/\\\">here</a>.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"executive_committee\\\">Executive Committee</h3>\\r\\n<p>At McGill, the Eng Games executive committee is generally composed of\\r\\nthe following:</p>\\r\\n<ul>\\r\\n<li>1-2 chief(s)</li>\\r\\n<li>VP Social</li>\\r\\n<li>VP Internal</li>\\r\\n<li>VP Competitions</li>\\r\\n<li>VP Finance</li>\\r\\n<li>VP Sponsorship</li>\\r\\n<li>VP Gear</li>\\r\\n<li>VP Entrepreneurship</li>\\r\\n<li>2 VP Machine</li>\\r\\n<li>Two godparents (ambassadors from other schools)</li>\\r\\n</ul>\\r\\n<p>The chief or co-chiefs are chosen by a selection committee during the\\r\\nwinter semester. The rest of the executive team are selected by the\\r\\nchief or co-chiefs in the following weeks. The executive members can be\\r\\ngeneral members of the <a href=\\\"EUS\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"EUS\\\">EUS</a> or of BESS (bioresource engineering students).<br />\\r\\nSince Jeux de G\\u00e9nie is an event that is overseen by <a href=\\\"QCESO\\\"\\r\\nclass=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"QCESO\\\">QCESO</a>, the Eng Games committee falls\\r\\nunder the <a href=\\\"VP_External\\\" class=\\\"wikilink\\\" title=\\\"VP External\\\">VP\\r\\nExternal</a>'s portfolio.</p>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"competitions\\\">Competitions</h2>\\r\\n<p><img src=\\\"Eng_Games_machine_2019.jpg\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Machine Competition|375x375px\\\"\\r\\nalt=\\\"Machine Competition|375x375px\\\" /> The Eng Games organizes a diverse\\r\\nrange of competitions, each designed to highlight the multitude of\\r\\nskills necessary for one to excel as an engineer. These competitions\\r\\nencompass a wide array of disciplines such as robotics, academics,\\r\\nconsulting, entrepreneurship, debates, improvisation, trivia, and\\r\\nsports.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"machine_competition\\\">Machine Competition</h3>\\r\\n<p>Recognized as the pinnacle event of the Games, <em>La Machine</em> is\\r\\na highly esteemed robotics competition that encompasses a wide range of\\r\\nengineering disciplines and facets. In the four months leading up to the\\r\\nGames, each university assembles a small team entrusted with designing a\\r\\nrobotic solution capable of executing specific tasks outlined in the\\r\\ndesign problem formulated by the organizers. The teams present their\\r\\ncreations to a live audience on the last day of the Games and the event\\r\\nis broadcast online.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"entrepeneurship_competition\\\">Entrepeneurship Competition</h3>\\r\\n<p>The entrepreneurship competition consists of 3 parts: developing a\\r\\nprototype for a new product that addresses a predefined problem,\\r\\ncreating a business plan to justify the product's selection, viability,\\r\\nand implementation as an emerging company, and preparing a brief sales\\r\\npitch to convince judges that it is the best solution for the problem.\\r\\nThis challenge requires a lot of prior work, as participants must have\\r\\ncompleted the prototype and business plan before their arrival at the\\r\\nGames.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"academic_competition\\\">Academic Competition</h3>\\r\\n<p>Eng Games hosts six distinct academic competitions: chemical,\\r\\nelectrical, civil, mechanical, software, and industrial engineering.\\r\\nEach discipline is divided into two components: practical and\\r\\ntheoretical. The practical component is assessed through a three-hours\\r\\nopen book exam, while the practical side consists of a lab or a small\\r\\ndesign competition. Each challenge is undertaken in teams of three or\\r\\nfour participants.</p>\\r\\n<figure>\\r\\n<img src=\\\"Improv2023.jpg\\\" title=\\\"Improv competition|400px\\\" />\\r\\n<figcaption>Improv competition|400px</figcaption>\\r\\n</figure>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"majeure_and_capitale_competitions\\\">Majeure and Capitale\\r\\nCompetitions</h3>\\r\\n<p>The <em>Majeure</em> and <em>Capitale</em> competitions are intensive\\r\\ndesign challenges lasting for a duration of 4 to 6 hours, requiring a\\r\\nteam of six participants. In the <em>Majeure</em> competition, teams are\\r\\nassigned the objective of constructing a small robotic device using a\\r\\nrestricted set of materials, while also addressing specific challenges.\\r\\nAs for the <em>Capitale</em> competition, it made its debut at the 2023\\r\\nGames and focuses on civil engineering. In both competitions, teams are\\r\\nrequired to present their solutions before a panel of judges.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"consulting_competition\\\">Consulting Competition</h3>\\r\\n<p>In the consulting competition, a team of four students collaborates\\r\\nto conceive and deliver their most effective solutions for a significant\\r\\nengineering problem. Social, economic, environmental, and political\\r\\naspects of the solution must be considered when presenting to the\\r\\njudges, who represent potential clients. In debates, a team of two students put their\\r\\npublic speaking skills and sharp minds to the test by partaking in a\\r\\nclassical debate on a topic chosen by the organizers. During the improv\\r\\ncompetition, a team of 4 participants demonstrate their imagination,\\r\\ncreativity, and quick thinking in head-to head matches against\\r\\nopponents. During the trivia competition, teams of 4 students are tested\\r\\nfor their general knowledge in a classic \\u201cg\\u00e9nie en herbe\\u201d match. There\\r\\nare different rounds of questions and the team who wins a match advance\\r\\nto the next round in the hopes of winning the tournament.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"sports_day\\\">Sports Day</h3>\\r\\n<p>During the sports day, every participant is required to compete as\\r\\ndelegations go head-to-head, highlighting the importance of team spirit.\\r\\nThe sporting challenges not only test individual physical abilities but\\r\\nalso assess the cohesion and teamwork among team members. In addition to\\r\\na mystery sport and an outdoor sport, an e-sport competition also takes\\r\\nplace.<br />\\r\\n</p>\\r\\n<h2 id=\\\"traditions\\\">Traditions</h2>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"jean_jacket\\\">Jean Jacket</h3>\\r\\n<p><img src=\\\"Eng_Games_2019_Academic_Competition.jpg\\\"\\r\\ntitle=\\\"Delegates wearing their jean jackets, as they should.\\\"\\r\\nalt=\\\"Delegates wearing their jean jackets, as they should.\\\" /> At Eng\\r\\nGames, every school has a specific item, often called delegation item,\\r\\nthat participants are required to wear at all times and at all events.\\r\\nMcGill's item is a sleeveless jean jacket with the McGill Eng Games logo\\r\\non the back. Participants can then add all sorts of patches and pins to\\r\\nit to make it their own. Jean jackets are the only delegation item that\\r\\nisn't identical for every delegate. In fact, the jackets are usually\\r\\nbought at thrift stores or brought by a delegate, which causes the\\r\\njackets to vary in color, size and design.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"grape_day\\\">Grape Day</h3>\\r\\n<p>Each school that participates in Eng Games also has a delegation\\r\\ndrink for which the recipe is kept only by the executive committee.\\r\\nMcGill's drink is called Grape Day and can typically be found at the Eng\\r\\nGames Blues Pub, and at other events organized by Eng Games throughout\\r\\nthe year. Like every delegation drink, it is mixed in an 18L water\\r\\nbarrel and usually passed around the room by someone who is considered\\r\\nin charge of the Grape Day. Furthermore, when students are given their\\r\\njean jacket at the delegation inauguration, they are invited to drink\\r\\nsome Grape Day as a symbol of their entrance into the MGCIL family.</p>\\r\\n<h3 id=\\\"quidditch_event\\\">Quidditch event</h3>\\r\\n<p>During The Race, the McGill delegation organizes a Quidditch event,\\r\\ninspired by the popular sport in the Harry Potter movies. The event\\r\\ntypically takes place in mid-October at Jeanne-Mance Park. Participants\\r\\ncan be observed running around with broom-like objects between their\\r\\nlegs, engaging in ball-throwing activities. Refreshments and food are\\r\\nalso available for purchase at the event. In fact, the\\r\\nnumber that comes before 6 must be replaced by the word \\u201cwah\\u201d and the\\r\\nnumber that comes before 8 must be replaced by \\u201cwahwah\\u201d.
