Tony and\\r\\nAndrew (aka O'Boogie & Cheese) were the common room managers in the\\r\\n92\\u2019-93\\u2019 academic year. Part of the mandate for the common room was to\\r\\nprovide a space for various engineering groups to hold fundraising\\r\\nevents and social gatherings. A lot of the gatherings created a bit of\\r\\nsegregation among the various departments (ex: Chemical engineering wine\\r\\nand cheese or Mechanical mixer).<br />\\r\\n<br />\\r\\nOne day a U1 named Mike Prichett approached Andrew and Tony and\\r\\nsuggested the idea of having a party in the common room (they suspected\\r\\nMatthew Mathers put him up to this). So they chose a day that was not\\r\\nalready booked for fundraising and decided that they would have cheap\\r\\nbeer, pizza, live music and a relaxing atmosphere. The first song for\\r\\nevery party was \\u201cLittle Bones\\u201d by Tragically Hip. Aside from being a\\r\\npretty chill song, the song also repeatedly says \\u201cHappy hour is here\\u201d\\r\\nand thus is a pretty appropriate song choice. They couldn\\u2019t figure out\\r\\nwhat to name the event but right before the first party, Tony said that\\r\\nthey needed to figure something out and write it on the LED sign they\\r\\nhad in the common room. Mike walked in, and with time running out he\\r\\nsaid \\u201clet\\u2019s just call it Blues Pub, for now, and we\\u2019ll figure something\\r\\nout later.\\u201d They never thought of another name, and so the name stuck\\r\\nand pretty soon every Friday was Blues Pub.<br />\\r\\n<br />\\r\\n<img src=\\\"mike.png\\\" title=\\\"Mike Prichett\\\" width=\\\"300\\\"\\r\\nalt=\\\"Mike Prichett\\\" /> Why Blues Pub? In contrast to PubNite they wanted\\r\\nto offer a low-key environment for the engineers to relax after a long\\r\\nweek, the blues being the no-nonsense predecessor to much contemporary\\r\\npopular music conjures up that type of atmosphere.<br />\\r\\n<br />\\r\\n<img src=\\\"band.png\\\" title=\\\"The Band That Killed Elvis\\\" width=\\\"300\\\"\\r\\nalt=\\\"The Band That Killed Elvis\\\" /> The name of the band that would play\\r\\nat Blues was \\u201cThe Band That Killed Elvis.\\u201d This band was led by the\\r\\ngo-to guy for anything music related in engineering, Paul Robichaud, who\\r\\nwould play drums. They would play all sorts of music (grunge, blues and\\r\\nsoul and even metal) with the aid of various instruments.
