Server Training is a McGill standard for serving alcohol. If you're planning on having an event on campus that involves alcohol, you need two very important things: an alcohol permit, and trained servers. This standard is also set for student bars such as Blues Pub and BDA, wine and cheese events, OAP, and so on.

Training

Since server training is mandated by McGill policy, it is strictly organized by the McGill organization Campus Life & Engagement. The course is approximately 3 hours in length, and will cover campus & provincial policies, patron safety, and responsible alcohol practice.

Training is:

  • Non-transferable
  • Valid for only 3 years (or until graduation)
  • Not a bartending course

Training is offered approximately once a month, and can be found using the myInvolvement Portal. You must register in advance!
